When people are told that they need to communicate more they often think that is an open invitation to talk but there is a complete difference between talking and communicating.

The first thing we must realize is that effective communication is a skill set. It can be learned. So for those with poor communication skills, there is hope. It is all about talking to people in a way in which they do not feel threatened or defensive but feel like you have their back.

I would challenge you to take time and go to the mall and watch the people around you and see how they talk to each other and the way in which they communicate. What I find disappointing is the fact that there are many, many great opportunities to connect that are missed because so often we don?t know how to positively communicate with each other and therefore we loose touch with each other?s emotions.

One thing we must all agree on is that we make things so much harder when we do not listen to our spouse the way that they need us to listen to them. It is important to always take the temperature of how you are feeling. It is okay to take a few minutes to relax if you become frustrated.

Over the years it?s amazing the number of times people are provided with information that, if they acted upon, could totally alter a relationship, career or the success of a business. But, because the sheer lack of peoples ability to listen to and think through another persons point of view unique opportunities pass them by.

Remember the fact that the love quotes that people all read should be a motivation rather than a indictment. We all all want a commitment which endures just like we learn about within the quotes about love. Nonetheless that relationship is one that is certainly acquired and not just given to us.

Interestingly enough, a good relationship is a lot like a working partnership. Often, what could be a marriage made in heaven is destroyed by the sheer inability to communicate. The most successful relationships, be it business or personnel are those whereby both parties have strong verbal and listening skills.

Sad to say, a lot of marriages start out on the wrong foot of listening skills. |Unfortunately, so many relationships begin with dysfunction with talking to each other. Why is it that we feel like our spouse should know what we are feeling and thinking? It is our job to clearly communicate how we feel and what is our needs so that our partner understands.

How many people decide not to tell their partner something just because they don?t know how to say it and then the problem just eats away at the relationship until there is no relationship left? The sad thing is that if they would just learn to let go of their anger they could begin to build a relationship based on love and mutual respect.

The golden age of the space combat sim is behind us- we?re probably not going to see a resurrection of TIE Fighter or Wing Commander anytime soon. However, there are still developers out there keeping of the dreams of starfighting glory alive. One of those developers is Seamless Entertainment, who have recently released their take on the classic genre.

Set in a far future when Earth?s sun is burning out, SOL: Exodus puts you in the cockpit of a United Colonies of SOL fighter as you lead the remnants of the UCS ?military forces against the Children of Dawn, an army of militant religious zealots bent on wiping out anyone who doesn?t embrace the destruction imminent in the dying sun. As you lead the eponymous Exodus, the CoD forces will harry you and make your life miserable every step of the way.

The gameplay is fairly easy to pick up, and falls on the more arcade-ish side of the space sim spectrum, lacking complexities like subsystem damage or customizable loadouts. Still, the game doesn?t do all the work for you, and you?ll have to pull some fancy flight maneuvers, hack transmission nodes on enemy vessels, and switch between targets on the fly, as well as keep steady aim (enemy gunships make sure that your missiles can?t do all the work). The hacking mechanic is well implemented, forcing you to target a hack point, then watch for the code that appears and then select the code. This can have cool effects like turning missiles against your enemies or revealing the ship?s weak points- however, you can only do it at certain scripted points and can?t, say, take out the frigates in the tutorial with it.

The game doesn?t offer you a choice of fighters, offering only the standard Hades starfighter, but this is justified by being part of a ragtag remnant fleet. Your ship is adequately equipped with a pair of automatic guns, a hard-hitting energy weapon called the MAG cannon, and a complement of guided missiles (which were unfortunately nerfed a bit in the last patch so you can?t really ?Fire and forget? anymore). The enemy fleet has a bigger variety of ships, ranging from cannon fodder fighters to upgraded gunships and elite fighters, as well as capital ships and the specialized ADD, which is like a robotic leech that attaches to your own capships and transports.

The controls for the game are fully customizable, and I used my joystick/throttle setup (a Thrustmaster T.Flight Hotas X) through the campaign, which played without a problem. I also replayed the tutorial with the Xbox 360 gamepad, which also played smoothly and was easy enough to get into. The game also gives you the option to play with mouse and keyboard, but I?d recommend a stick or, if you don?t have a joystick available, a gamepad.

The game features 8 missions including the prologue/tutorial, with a decent variety of objectives in each, although many of them boil down to ?protect the Atlas? (your home base/carrier) and ?destroy the enemy capship?. There are usually secondary objectives which, when accomplished, will add to your mission score and possibly net you bonuses that can be used to upgrade your fighter (although some of the later mission challenges are daunting). There are also a few missions which are less about defense and more about pure dogfighting, and I have to admit that these were my personal favorites.

Graphically, the game is competent and often colorful, although as it uses the Unreal engine it is occasionally prone to texture pop-in. They mostly stay smooth at full settings (with the exception of the final mission in early releases, although this has since been remedied with a patch.). The fighters and capships all have interesting designs, and I particularly love the launch deck, which is reminiscent of the Viper launch sequences in the original Battlestar Galactica series. The character portraits are also quite good, with the UCS all having a military bearing, the sole civilian having a professionsl appearance, and the CoD all looking appropriately insane.

The sound effects are what you would expect. No, sound doesn?t travel in space in reality. Willing suspension of disbelief applies here as in most science fiction. Of course, the game would seem a lot less lively without the whoosh of afterburners, the electric splash of the MAG cannon and the beep of the incoming missile indicator. In addition, the voices are very well done and fit the characters well, with special note to the deliciously hammy Children of Dawn commanders. Their frequent proclamations of your impending doom fit their villainy well, and make for some fun bad guys.

The initial release of the game was riddled with bugs and balance issues, but the Seamless crew have been active on the Steam forums, and more importantly have been listening to user concerns (including some of my own issues with framerate in the final mission, which were resolved in the 02/01 patch). The team has shown that they?re willing to make the game more user friendly- refining the tutorial to make it a more comprehensive example of how to fly and fight, as well as dealing with issues regarding the hacking feature.

The Final Verdict

The game is not the second coming of Wing Commander or Freespace, and coming from a small independent team I don?t know why so many are expecting something of this magnitude. It?s a rather short game, with only 8 missions in the campaign (clocking in at 6 hours for me), although you can go back to reply any mission after you?ve completed it. It offers a nice challenge for newcomers to the genre and a fun diversion for veterans. It?s not perfect, but it?s a genuinely good game made by a team with some serious love for sci-fi space combat. At $9.99 USD, SOL: Exodus is definitely worth checking out.

Boxing cornerman Angelo Dundee dies at 90

Angelo Dundee, the brilliant motivator who worked the corner for Muhammad Ali in his greatest fights and willed Sugar Ray Leonard to victory in his biggest bout, died Wednesday in Tampa, Fla. He was 90.

The genial Dundee was best known for being in Ali's corner for almost his entire career, but those in boxing also knew him as an ambassador for boxing and a figure of integrity in a sport that often lacked it.

He died with his family surrounding him, said son, Jimmy Dundee, but not before being able to attend Ali's 70th birthday bash in Louisville, Ky., last month.

"It was the way he wanted to go," Jimmy Dundee said. "He did everything he wanted to do."

A master motivator and clever corner man, Dundee was regarded as one of the sport's great ambassadors. He was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 1994 after a career that spanned six decades, training 15 world champions, including Leonard, George Foreman, Carmen Basilio and Jose Napoles.

But he will always be linked to Ali as one of the most successful fighter-trainer relationships in boxing history, helping Ali become the first to win the heavyweight title three times. The pair would travel around the world for fights to such obscure places as Ali's October 1974 bout in Zaire against Foreman dubbed "The Rumble in the Jungle," and Ali's third fight against Joe Frazier in Quezon City, Metro Manila, Philippines, called by promoters as the "Thrilla in Manila."

"I just put the reflexes in the proper direction," Dundee said in a 2005 interview with The Associated Press.

Their partnership began in Louisville, Ali's hometown, in 1959. Dundee was there with light heavyweight Willie Pastrano when the young Ali, then known as Cassius Clay, called their room from a hotel phone to ask if he could have five minutes. Clay, a local Golden Gloves champion, kept asking the men boxing questions in a conversation that lasted 3? hours, according to Dundee's autobiography, "My View From the Corner: A Life in Boxing."

After Ali returned from Rome with a gold medal at the 1960 Olympics, Dundee ran into him in Louisville and invited him to come to Miami Beach to train. Ali declined. But that December, Dundee got a call from one of Ali's handlers, seeking to hire Dundee. After Ali won his first pro fight, Dundee accepted.

He helped Ali claim the heavyweight title for the first time on Feb. 25, 1964, when Sonny Liston quit on his stool after the sixth round during their fight in Miami Beach.

In an age of boxing when fighter-manager relationships rarely last, Dundee and Ali would never split.

When Cassius Clay angered white America by joining the Black Muslims and become Muhammad Ali, Dundee never wavered. When Ali defied the draft at the height of the Vietnam war, losing 3 1/2 years from the prime of his career, Dundee was there waiting for the heavyweight's return. And when Ali would make bold projections, spewing poetry that made headlines across the world and gave him the nickname "The Louisville Lip," Dundee never asked him to keep quiet.

"Through all those days of controversy, and the many that followed, Angelo never got involved," Ali wrote in the foreword to Dundee's book. "He let me be exactly who I wanted to be, and he was loyal. That is the reason I love Angelo."

Born Angelo Mirena on Aug. 30, 1921, in south Philadelphia, Dundee's boxing career was propelled largely by his older brother, Chris, a promoter. After returning from World War II ? "We won, but not because of anything I did" ? he joined Chris in the boxing game in New York, serving as his "go-fer" and getting the tag "Chris' kid brother." Angelo and Chris followed another brother Joe, who was a fighter, in changing their surname to Dundee so their parents wouldn't know they worked in boxing.

Myanmar's Suu Kyi postpones planned political trip (AP)

YANGON, Myanmar ? Pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi has postponed a trip to central Myanmar because she could not obtain permission to hold a political gathering at a football stadium there, a party official said Thursday.

Ohn Kyaing, a spokesman for her National League for Democracy party, said she would reschedule the trip to Mandalay which had been slated for this weekend.

The failure to receive Election Commission permission strikes a sour note in the reconciliation process under the reforms of the elected but military-backed government of President Thein Sein. Suu Kyi is leading a slate of her party's candidates contesting 48 parliamentary seats in an April 1 by-election.

Thein Sein's democratic reforms after decades of military repression have drawn praise from Suu Kyi as well as from previously critical Western nations.

Suu Kyi last week made a political trip to the southern city of Dawei, where she received an enthusiastic welcome from thousands of people.

The party submitted a request 10 days ahead of time for permission to use the Bahtoo football stadium for a speech because a large crowd was expected, Ohn Kyaing said. The law requires that applications be made at least seven days in advance.

Ohn Kyaing, who will run for one of the 10 seats from the Mandalay region in the polls, said the NLD asked football authorities for use of the stadium, but the football federation said Mandalay's Election Commission must first approve the request.

However, the Election Commission said the NLD needed to obtain permission from the football federation first.

"We are a bit saddened with the inconvenience," Ohn Kyaing said.

NLD leaders then sought permission to use an open field under the administration of the ministry of sports but no approval was given by Thursday evening, so the party decided to cancel Suu Kyi's planned trip.

Bow fishing is a hybrid of fishing and hunting, so you could have to acquire some new skills like tying knots for instance. You will have to be able to tie the line to the reel and the arrow and those knots will have to be able to put up with the tremendous acceleration that an arrow leaving a bow goes through without failing.

The bow may not be different much from a standard bow, but the arrows certainly do. Arrows for bow fishing are usually a lot heavier that air-flight arrows. They also have barbed tips to stop the fish escaping or just slipping off when you reel it in. The arrows do not have fletching either because flights are apt to deflect the true course of the arrow in water ? the reverse of in the air.

There are three main techniques used in bow fishing: 1] you can put down ground bait and lie in wait. ? an over hanging tree or high rock is good for this; 2] you can float down stream in a dinghy while sitting or standing in the prow; 3] you can walk into the river like a salmon fisherman.

Compensating for the refraction of the water is the most difficult ability to learn and that means knowing the water well too.

EU probes Samsung, Germany blocks its tablets

BRUSSELS?? Samsung took a hit in its battle against arch-rival Apple on Tuesday, when the European Union announced it will investigate whether it is illegally trying to hinder competitors and Germany blocked sales of some of its tablets.

Samsung Electronics and Apple Inc. are engaged in a strategic war over patents in many countries across the world as they try to draw market share away from each other.

The EU's antitrust watchdog thinks the South Korean company may be overstepping the bounds, however, and launched a formal investigation of whether Samsung is using law suits over key patents on 3G wireless technology to hinder competitors ? including Apple.

In Germany, an appeals court ruled in favor of Apple in a separate case, saying Samsung could not sell its Galaxy Tab 10.1 nor the Galaxy Tab 8.9 in the country because they too closely resembled the iPad2, in violation of unfair competition laws.

"Samsung wrongly used the enormous reputation and prestige of the iPad," Duesseldorf state court Presiding Judge Wilhelm Berneke wrote in his ruling.

Samsung's successor tablet, the Galaxy Tab 10.1 N, was not affected by the ruling, and the company said that while the decision was disappointing, it was largely irrelevant.

"Today's ruling is of little factual relevance due to the new model Galaxy Tab 10.1 N, and ... the decision therefore is of no indicative value with respect to other legal proceedings involving the Galaxy Tab 10.1 N," Samsung said in an e-mail to The Associated Press.

"Samsung will continue to take all appropriate measures, including legal action, to ensure continued consumer access to our innovative products."

Florian Mueller, a patent analyst who has been closely following the battle between Samsung and Apple, said the German court ruling won't have a commercial impact on the South Korean company, since it has already been selling a new model of the Galaxy tablet since November.

"The defeat in Germany is more of a symbolical nature," said Mueller, whose clients include Apple competitor Microsoft.

The probe by the European Commission, however, could have a larger impact.

The Commission said it suspects Samsung of not giving other companies fair access to patents it holds on standardized 3G technology for mobile devices ? despite committing to do so in 1998.

A spokeswoman for the Commission said the probe also affects tablets such as Apple's newest iPad, which uses standardized wireless 3G technology.

The Commission said that Samsung last year sought legal injunctions against other device makers in several EU states, alleging patent infringement.

Under EU patent rules, a company that hold patents for standardized products are required to license them out indiscriminately at a fair price.

"Samsung now has to think carefully about how it wants to deal with (the probe)," said Mueller, adding that the company may be inclined to withdraw its lawsuits against Apple.

In the EU, Samsung has sued Apple in Germany, France, Italy, the U.K., the Netherlands and Spain. It also has legal proceedings against its competitor in the U.S., South Korea, Japan and Australia, Mueller said.

The battle between the two companies began in April, when Cupertino, California-based Apple sued Samsung in the United States, alleging the product design, user interface and packaging of Samsung's Galaxy devices "slavishly copy" the iPhone and iPad.

Samsung ? the global No. 1 in TVs and No. 2 in smartphones by sales ? responded by filing its own lawsuits that accused Apple of patent infringement of its wireless telecommunications technology.

A spokesman said the EU Commission launched its probe after its own investigation of the market, rather than reacting to complaints from Samsung's competitors. However, the Commission last year sent antitrust questionnaires to both Apple and Samsung.

The spokesman added that similar probes could also be launched against other companies strategically using patent suits to stop competitors from selling similar devices.

Nam Ki-yung, a spokesman at Samsung Electronics in South Korea, said his company was looking at details of the news on the probe but had no immediate comments.

EU antitrust probes don't have a deadline and the Commission stressed that its investigation does not mean Samsung did indeed breach the bloc's competition rules. Samsung now gets the chance to respond to the Commission's concerns, as will other market participants.

If Samsung is found guilty of unfairly restraining competition, it can be fined up to 10 percent of annual revenue related to the probe.

The probe and victory in the German court for Apple come after the California company has met with several setbacks recently in its fight with Samsung.

Most recently, a Dutch court ruled on Jan. 24 that Samsung's Galaxy Tab tablet was not a copy of Apple's iPad, and that it could continue to be sold in the Netherlands. That came on the heels of a December decision in Sydney, where the High Court dismissed Apple's appeal and said Samsung was free to sell its Galaxy tablet computers in Australia.
