?Art After Dark? Focuses on Fashion
?Art After Dark,? a cutting-edge art show featuring progressive visual art fused with up-and-coming music, returns to Kentlands Mansion on May 18 from 6 ? 9 p.m. Admission is $10 per person, payable at the door. A cash bar and complimentary snacks will be available.
The May event focuses on fashion, with the photography of Eric Kayanan, vintage clothing and accessories by Gen-XY Vintage, music by DJ The Gyfted and live music by Continued, and delectable cupcakes by Bella?s Sweet Treats.

?Miss Nelson Is Missing!?
In partnership with Kensington Arts Theatre 2nd Stage, the Gaithersburg Arts Barn presents ?Miss Nelson Is Missing!? a family production with music, lyrics and book by Joan Cushing. The show runs through May 27, with performances on Saturdays and Sundays at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Admission is $18, $16 for city residents, and $9 for students through grade 12.
What happens when Miss Nelson, the gentle, long suffering teacher of the worst behaved class in the entire school, goes missing? The students of Room 207 are in for a big surprise when Viola Swamp, a scary substitute teacher who assigns homework from hell and wields her ruler like a sword, shows up to take Miss Nelson?s place. No more spitballs and paper airplanes for these uncontrollable children who set out to find their beloved Miss Nelson. Will they ever get her back? Based on the children?s book by Henry Allard, this musical teaches lessons of appreciation and respect.

Community Chorus Concert
The Gaithersburg Community Chorus, directed by Hugh Harvey III will present three nights of Mozart?s Requiem. The performances will take place on May 19 ? 20 at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 9000 Warfield Road, and May 22 at the Rosborough Theater at Asbury Methodist Village. All concerts begin at 7:30 p.m.
Admission to the concert is free; donations are accepted. The Community Chorus is sponsored by the City of Gaithersburg Cultural Arts Advisory Committee and is funded in part by a grant from the Maryland State Arts Council.

?Jazz in June? Returns
?Jazz in June? returns to Gaithersburg?s Music on the Move concert series with two local jazz greats on June 1 at 8 p.m. The Bruce Swaim Quartet and The Rick Whitehead Trio will present original compositions and American standards simultaneously at the Arts Barn and Kentlands Mansion, located at 311 and 320 Kent Square Road in Gaithersburg. The Bruce Swaim Quartet, playing at the Arts Barn, is recognized as one of Washington, D.C.?s, premier jazz quartets. The BSQ received the 2010 Washington Area Music Association award for Jazz Group of the Year as well as the award for Jazz Recording of the Year for ?Winter?s Waltz.? Its members have performed alongside jazz greats such as Rosemary Clooney, Danny Gatton, Keter Betts and Tony Bennett. The highly acclaimed Rick Whitehead Trio, led by master jazz guitarist Rick Whitehead, will play simultaneously at Kentlands Mansion. Performing together since 1994, the Rick Whitehead Trio has earned several awards, including the Washington Area Music Association award for best Contemporary Album in 1998. The trio can be found performing at Blues Alley, Bohemian Caverns, the Smithsonian?s Jazz Club, the Kennedy Center and many other venues in the area.
With concerts occurring simultaneously in the Arts Barn and at Kentlands Mansion, patrons attend the first half of the evening with a concert in one venue, then switch at intermission to enjoy a second concert in the other. Intermission features desserts, with drinks available for purchase.
